As always, words of wisdom. As Jeff Herring, the Article Guy suggested on a call last week, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket." One of the things we both agree with is that it helps to know where you're going before you choose how you're going to get there. On a webinar, Mari Smith, a Social Media Marketing (SMM) expert, said "The #1 reason people fail is they don't have a strategy. May infopreneurs and professionals get that it will actually take less time, energy, and money to implement marketing methods once you know what your desired business outcomes are and how your marketing strategy directly supports them.

I totally agree with you that people need to forge their own ways of earning income that stretch beyond simply being an employer. I have never felt less stress and more renewed than when I decided to work on my own business. This doesn't mean I don't have periods of doubt, but even when I have to work a survival job I appreciate that I'm working to determine my own worth and future.

We've encouraged our grown children to work on developing businesses on the side as well. Making a complete commitment to an employer as your only strategy will inevitably leave you at the mercy of always thinking and being an employee.

I slapped myself in the head so many times (at the things that you revealed that were obvious in retrospect), that I now have a flat spot or a V8...

This one's juicy and is a must re-listen -- until I get it. Melanie, this podcast series of yours is one of my most well-spent 8 minutes each week because I ALWAYS learn something valuable I can use.

Melanie,

As usual, you have hit the nail right on the head. If I knew then what I know now, thanks to you, I would not be delivering pizza either!

The best thing about the podcast is that you not only recognized what he could have done before his downfall in infopreneuring, but you also point out that it's not too late and that he can still create information products so that he can make money from what he knows. As a listener with 2 bachelor's degrees, I know how frustrating it is to do a job like pizza delivery just to make ends meet when you know you are capable of so much more.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to next week's episode. In the meantime, I'll keep making use of the excellent blueprint you have set out in your book.

I thought the podcast on having a Plan B was great. Too often we hear our friends and family lament over what is happening to them and you want to encourage them to take charge of their lives and have that crucial plan B. As experience has shown us, until their eyes are opened to the possibilities, they will never understand that a plan B is really for the sake of their well-being and their family. Good podcast.

Melanie: Thank you so much for real information. Very helpful and insightful.
I am not a marketer, have had no training in mar/com, although as a transcriptionist, I do have familiarity with marketing lingo. The up-selling scenario you described is very annoying to me, having gone through it on the Internet several times before. A real turnoff. I always completely abandon the purchase. For myself, I think I might just offer what I have, ask for the price, period. I do love the numbers you worked out on sales. Just 1,000 customers at $10 a pop comes to $10,000: that's still real money.

Great podcast & I couldn't agree more. When I started my own business, a lot of well meaning friends and family tried to steer me towards a franchise. The more I investigated, the more it looked to me, like still working for a large company but with a lot more debt. In fact, I met someone last year who owned a well known franchise. The franchisor sold out to a large box store, who raised the fees for the franchisees and started requiring them to hold in-store demos on Saturdays. So much for your freedom.

Keep up the good work.

Melanie, what you have said in this podcast is so true. Using the opportunity to say your website address instead of where you're from is a brilliant way to subtly promote ourselves. Another reason to wait until most other people have introduced themselves is that more people will hear your URL.

Then look for opportunities to contribute to the call... whether or not the call is focused on the same topic of your expertise. People get a sense of who you are and that you are generous with your expertise. People want to do business with those they know, like and trust. They will take your message to heart once they realize it's from your heart.

Whether you're doing business around the corner or around the globe, this is an excellent strategy for taking your message to YOUR world.

Then look for opportunities to contribute to the call… whether or not the call is focused on the same topic of your expertise. People get a sense of who you are and that you are generous with your expertise. People want to do business with those they know, like and trust. They will take your message to heart once they realize it’s from your heart.

Whether you’re doing business around the corner or around the globe, this is an excellent strategy for taking your message to YOUR world.

Melanie makes a lot of sense. For years, I've felt that the knowledge I'd gained in my last 17yrs could be used in a more productive and useful way to reach a broader audience. When life strikes, you're faced with the decision to actually do something about it. Last year was when life struck...after many years of massive production, all production all but ceased and left me wondering about how to move forward.

This became the perfect time to begin my infopreneur opportunity and i've just begun and will be launching real soon!

If you have knowledge and experience - you are already an infopreneur and just don't know it yet!

Thanks Melanie

I like the idea about promoting yourself during tele-seminars with you URL and/or company name.com. I think it may be helpful to differentiate myself when on these calls rather than following directions of the leader in stating where you are calling from.

Thank You.
